shooting-satellites asked: First, I've gotta say that Honeydew Syndrome is responsible for getting me into webcomics (blame TVTropes). I keep missing all your book-winning contests (usually by a few days FFFF), but I am still hoping to get the books, somehow. I love Two Keys as well, and I liked Ten Thousand Flags when it was still around (anyone else remember that? Am I all alone?). Anyway, for my question...How do you keep yourself motivated to finish a story? Is it easier with another person involved?

I’d have to say it definitely helps having someone else involved. Unfortunately Nuu and I are both pretty lazy and pessimistic, but sometimes we’re able to motivate the other when they’re feeling down. How it really helps, though, is having someone that depends on you. If you don’t get that writing done, they can’t draw it. And if you’ve already written it, they have no excuse not to draw it. If you don’t do your end, you ruin them too.

Personally, there are very few endeavors I’ve started on my own that I’ve been able to finish. This may be in part due to the fact that I’m always working on a steady project (like Two Keys) and I have a day job but mostly it’s because I’m lazy and if there’s no one else depending on me, I tend to not finish things. I’m the type that gets spurts of inspiration and will write two chapters in one go, then do nothing for a month. The thing I’ve found that is best useful for keeping me motivated on a project is to constantly think about it. That seems obvious, but I mean, like, talk about it with someone, debate what characters would do in a situation, make sure you think about it at least once a day. If not, ironically, I get bored and want to do something new. It’s not a case of getting tired of something, but not focusing on it enough. Fool around and do other things and you lose momentum. If something’s in your head all day, it makes you want to create it. Does that make any sense, haha!?

As for the giveaways, we’ll be doing a Two Keys contest as soon as we get the second volume, so hold tight :D Thanks for the compliments and your support~
